"2 and a half years ago I discovered the Spanish Room and started one to one conversation classes with Xochitl Hernandez – having previously struggled to advance in group classes. Within a couple of months my speaking and listening skills had improved dramatically. Now, Spanish friends were commenting positively on the improvement. And today I feel fluent in everyday Spanish. Xochitl is a qualified language teacher and offers individual classes for beginners up to those who want to simply have an hour per week to use their skills. Classes are relaxed but focussed and Xochitl works to the needs of individual students rather than following a rigid structure. Highly recommended!" Graham Dimmock

"Before contacting the Spanish Room, I had been learning Spanish using a language app which taught me a lot of vocabulary but not how to actually have a conversation in Spanish. I found it really difficult. When I started my conversation classes, Xochitl put me at ease straightaway. Her friendly, relaxed and patient approach has helped build my confidence and we chat together on a whole range of topics. Xochitl tailors support to my own individual learning needs. Where I have needed help with particular aspects of grammar, she explains but also takes the time to prepare information sheets for reference and additional exercises for practice. I really enjoy the classes and have learned so much. My conversational skills are improving all the time. On a recent holiday in Spain, I even felt confident enough to join an Intercambio group.

"We had Spanish lessons with Xochitl for a full year in 2024/2025 before we took a month long trip across Northern Spain. In class we learned a very good range of conversational and written Spanish. By the time we took our trip we felt confident that we could have basic conversations using the correct grammar. "Xochitl is a very patient, calm and encouraging teacher plus a very nice person as well. She customises lessons to suit your level and creates a relaxed environment to talk and learn Spanish, mixing audio and written exercises for faster ability. In my case, I share lessons with a friend and if my companion or I slip into English, she says ‘solo español’ but in a fun way. After the lesson I copy her notes from the whiteboard and review them so as not to make the same errors again.
